The stay
Room for everyone, and somewhere to put them
Prima sleeps eight across four bedrooms, and three of them are on the main floor. Nobody has to negotiate stairs to get to bed, which matters more than it sounds when you are travelling with grandparents, toddlers, or both.
The kitchen, dining table, and living room are one open space with a wall of windows at the end of it, so whoever is cooking is still part of the conversation. Downstairs there is a second living room, a foosball table, and an arcade basketball game for when the weather turns.
The view
Every room faces the Shenandoah
The house sits with its back to the woods and its face to the valley. Sunrise comes in soft and the sunset takes the whole ridge with it, and because the light moves all day the view is never quite the same twice. Fall is the obvious answer. Clear winter mornings are the underrated one.

Outside
Evenings run long out here
The hot tub looks straight down the valley, and the covered deck wraps the house with a grill, a fire table, and enough seating that nobody has to go in first. There is almost no light up here, so on a clear night the sky does the rest.

The area
Front Royal, and the park behind it
Front Royal is the northern gateway to Shenandoah National Park, which puts Skyline Drive and the first stretch of the Appalachian Trail about twenty-five minutes from the front door. The town calls itself the canoe capital of Virginia and means it: the Shenandoah River runs right through it, with outfitters running float trips all summer.
Downtown is a short drive for groceries, restaurants, coffee, and a growing run of wineries and breweries. Dulles is about an hour and fifteen out, which makes this an easy weekend from DC without feeling like anywhere near it.

Amazing views; great house! The road to get there is a little bit rough but worth it. Clear instructions helped us out. Will definitely stay again
Great stay! Beautiful views, house has everything you need. Great quality on everything. Ride up is a little scary at first but gets easier every time you do it. Would definitely stay again.
The property is beautiful and the views are even better. The drive up the mountain to the property was an adventure of its own. The home is new and the neighbors are friendly.
